We all know that mechanics is the study of how things move. It is a tool for describing how planets move around sun and many more things that just happen around us all the time. Development of mechanics started with the works of Galileo (1564-1642) and Newton (1642-1727). Apart form the works of Galileo and Newton two alternative formulation of mechanics were developed by Lagrange (1736-1813) and Hamilton (1805-1865). Both these Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations are equivalent to that of Newton’s , but these formulations provide a much simpler way to solve more complicated problems and are also the starting point for the various modern developments.
