How to Prepare for Viva Voice
Here are some tips to help you prepare effectively:
- Make sure you have a deep understanding of all the experiments or practical work you have conducted. This includes knowing the objectives, methodologies, results, and conclusions of each experiment.
- Often, viva questions are based on fundamental concepts related to the experiments. Ensure you have a strong grasp of the basic principles and theories underlying each practical.
- Try to anticipate the questions that might be asked. These can range from direct questions about the experiment to more conceptual questions. Common areas of inquiry include the purpose of the experiment, the procedures used, observations, the interpretation of results, and any errors or anomalies.
- Practice explaining the key concepts and procedures of your experiments. Being able to articulate these clearly and concisely is crucial. You can practice with a peer, a family member, or even in front of a mirror.
- Be prepared to discuss how the experiment relates to real-world applications or further studies. This shows a deeper level of understanding and engagement with the subject.
- If your practicals are related to a rapidly evolving field (like technology or biology), staying updated with the latest developments can be beneficial.
- How you present your answers is important. Work on speaking clearly, confidently, and at a moderate pace. Make eye contact with the examiner (if culturally appropriate) to demonstrate confidence.
- It’s normal to feel nervous, but staying calm can help you think more clearly. Take deep breaths if you feel anxious.
