IIT’s is often considered the height of accomplishment due to high standards of the examination. IITs were first conceived by then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1950s as part of his vision to promote the growth of science and technology in India.Today IITs are considered the top most technological institutes in India and enjoy reputation all over the world for their rigorous standards and quality of education.Notable Alumni from these temples of technology include Vinod Khosla,Narayana Murthy,Rajat Gupta to name a few.

B-TECH
The Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree is the most common undergraduate degree in the IITs in terms of student enrolment although dual degrees integrating Master of Science or Master of Arts are also offered. The BTech course is based on a 4-year program with eight semesters while the Dual Degree and Integrated courses are 5-year programs with ten semesters.

Eligibility: The minimum academic qualification for admission through IIT’s is 10+2 (class XII) The candidate can appear for this test only twice and that too in consecutive years; once in the final year of 12th and then in the next year.
Selection Criteria: The exam includes objective type questions. There are two question papers, each of three hours duration. Both question papers consist of three separate sections on chemistry, physics and mathematics. The test papers are designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.
The answers are to be recorded on a separate, specially designed, machine-gradable sheet of paper (ORS – Optical Response Sheet). In some sections, incorrect answers may be awarded negative marks. The candidate can opt for question paper in English or Hindi.
Some points about the Examination
- Each year JEE Advanced is conducted by any one of the old IITs in a round robin fashion
- The age limit for appearing in JEE is 25 years
- For candidates belonging to SC, ST and PD categories, the relaxed age limit is 30 years
- A candidate can take the JEE two times at the most
- A students who are selected for admission to an IIT cannot attempt the examination again in the future
- The exam is set by the JEE Committee (consisting of a group of faculty members drawn from the admitting colleges) under the tightest security
- As of 2019,Around 8295 seats are available in various IIT
- It is one of the toughest engineering entrance exams in the world with a success rate of around 1 in 45
- Candidates who qualify in the JEE Advanced can apply for admission to the BArch (Bachelor of Architecture), BDes (Bachelor of Design), BTech (Bachelor of Technology), Dual Degree (Integrated Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology) and Integrated MSc (Master of Sciences) courses in the various institutes.
- The IITs were created to train scientists and engineers, with the aim of developing a skilled workforce to support the economic and social development of India after independence in 1947.

1 & 2 is only for engineers and post graduates in science. Courses 4-10 are offered by few IIT’s only
Admissions
GATE and JAM is used for getting admission into these courses Admissions to masters programs in engineering are made using scores of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), while those to masters programs in science are made using scores of the Joint Admission Test to MSc (JAM).
Doctoral degrees
Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) is also offered by IIT’s. PhD candidates have to submit a dissertation as well as provide an oral defence for their thesis. Teaching Assistantships (TA) and Research Assistantships (RA) are often provided.
