What is the new scheme of engineering entrance examination ?

It has been decided to hold a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) from the year 2013 for admission to the undergraduate Programmes in Engineering in two parts, JEE-MAIN and JEE-ADVANCED. Only the top 250000 candidates based on performance in JEE MAIN will qualify to appear in the JEE ADVANCED examination. Admissions to IITs will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE ADVANCED
For securing admission in IITs(Indian Institutes of Technology) and ISM, aspirants should either be in category wise top 20 percentile in class XII or must have scored at least 75% aggregate marks for general and OBC-NCL or 65% aggregate marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
Question 2.
What are JEE-MAIN and JEE-ADVANCED examinations ?

The erstwhile AIEEE exam will now be called as JEE-MAIN exam and erstwhile IIT-JEE will now be called as JEE-ADVANCED exam. To appear in JEE-ADVANCED, one has to appear in JEE-MAIN first and should be in top 2.5 lakh candidates category wise.

What will be admission criteria for IITs and ISM Dhanbad ?

Only the top 250000 candidates (including all categories) based on performance in JEE MAIN will qualify to appear in the JEE ADVANCED examination. Admissions to IITs will be based only on category-wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE ADVANCED, subject to condition that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile (category wise) in their respective Boards/Qualifying Examinations or must have scored at least 75% aggregate marks for general and OBC-NCL or 65% aggregate marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

What will be admission criteria for NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs ?

- For the candidates who qualify for admission in the NITs, IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Main) ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the Class 12 examination or be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12 examination conducted by respective Boards. For SC / ST candidates, the qualifying marks should be 65% in the Class 12 examination
- The candidate is also required to pass in each of the subjects of Class 12 / qualifying examination.
- The Admission to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs will be based on the announced qualifying Percentile by the individual Institutes.

What will be admission criteria for State Engineering Colleges ?

- In case any State opts to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to state Universities and requires separate merit list to be provided based on relative weightages adopted by the states, the merit list shall be prepared with such relative weightages as may be indicated by States.
- For all admission-related procedures/queries, the candidates are advised to refer to the website of JoSAA, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB), or the concerned State Government/Institute after the declaration of result/ranks of JEE (Main) – 2025.

What is minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE-Main 2025 exam ?

Only those candidates who have passed the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2023, 2024, or those who are appearing in the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2025, are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2025.

What are qualifying examinations for JEE(Main)-2025?
Answer
LIST OF QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS FOR JEE(Main)-2025 are
i) The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi
ii) Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
iii) Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
iv) Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
v) H.S.C. Vocational Examination.
vi) A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
vii) 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
viii) General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
ix) High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
x) Candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination.
Question 8.
I want to improve my Class XII results. Can I do in two subjects ?
Answer
If you want to improve your performance in Board’s Exam, you can do so but for consideration of that year’s result you have to appear in all the subjects (as per the scheme of studies of your Board, 5 subjects in case of CBSE ) and not partially. You can not improve in one/two subjects and add them to previous years’ performance.
Question 09.
Will there be negative marking in JEE-Main exam 2025 ? What will be the typology of the questions therein ?

YES.
Each Subject will have two sections. Section A will be of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Section B will contain Questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value. In Section B, candidates have to attempt any 05 (five) questions out of 10. There will be negative marking for both Section A and Section B. For each question in Section B, a candidate has to enter the correct integer value of the answer using the mouse and the onscreen virtual numeric keypad in the place designated to enter the answer. For Section B, the answer should be rounded off to the nearest integer

There are two sessions for JEE Main 2025
JEE (Main) – 2025 Session 1 for Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) will be held between 24 January and 01 February 2025 (tentative) and Session 2 will be held between 01 April and 15 April 2025. This is being done to ensure that the JEE (Main) – 2025 does not interfere with the Board examinations, which may be held at different times across the States/UTs. Paper 2A and Paper 2B (B. Arch and B. Planning) are also being held twice a year (January and April 2025).
