**Solve each of the following equations **
(a) $x + 2 = -11$

(b) $2x - \frac {1}{6} = 3$

(c) $7x - 7 = 21$

(d) $-7x = 84$

(e) $18 +7x = -3$

(f) $3(x - 4) = 21$

(g)$ \frac {3x}{2} - \frac {2x}{3} = 8$

(h) $3x - 9 = 4x - 3$

(i) $3(2x - 3) = 4(2x + 4)$

Answer
a. x=-13

b. x= 19/12

c. x=4

d. x=-12

e. x=-3

f. x= 11

g. x= 48/5

h. x=-6

i. x=-25/2

**Question 2**
**Solve each of the following equations and check your solution by substituting in the equation. **
(a) $\frac {x}{2} - 10 = \frac {1}{2}$

(b) $ \frac {x}{3} - \frac {x}{2} = 6$

(c) $6x - 9 - 2(1 + x) = x - 9$

(d) $2(x +2) + 5(x + 5) = 4(x - 8) + 2(x - 2)$

(e) $\frac {3 + y}{y + 7)} = \frac {3}{5}$

(f) $ \frac {3x - 2}{2x - 3} = - \frac {1}{2}$

(g) (x - 7 )/3 = (x - 1)/5

Answer
a. x=21

b. x=-36

c. x= 2/3

d. x=-63

e. y=3

f. x= 7/8

g. x=16

**Question 3**
A positive number is 5 times another number. If 21 is added to both the numbers, then one of the new numbers become twice of another new numbers. Find the original numbers.

**Question 4**
The sum of three consecutive multiples of 8 is 888. Find the multiple.

Answer
Let the three consecutive multiple of 8 be 8x ,8(x+1) , 8(x+2)

Now

$8x + 8(x+1) + 8(x+2)=888$

$8x + 8x + 8 + 8x + 16 =888$

$24x + 24 =888$

$24x = 864$

x=36

So multiples are 36,37 and 38
